PHIDIM: Locals of Syabrumba VDC are terrified after the threat of possible flooding due to the blockage of Tamor River in Panchthar. Due to the incessant rainfall since yesterday night, sand and gravel have been piling up on the adjoining border of Syabrumba, Panchthar, Myanlung and Teharthum at Lamughat. The river was blocked for three hours after Aambote Khola piled up sand and gravel on the very same place on May 1. Former district development committee chairman Dinanath Ghimire said that the river was blocked after the sand and gravel piled up. “The possibility of many farming lands being swept away is high if the authority does not adopt safety measures on time,” he added. Meanwhile, Chief District Officer, Pradip Raj Kandel, said that his officer has sent letters to the Eastern Regional Road Office, Jhapa, and Division Road Office, Dhankuta alerting them of possible dangers at Tamor River. Kandel informed he has demanded excavator to give an outlet to the blocked river. He asked the villagers to take safety measures.
