Mugu, Dhami jakri barparda garbhawati mahila ko mirtyou. Urmila Khattri, 33, of Sukadhik VDC-2 has died while being tended to a shaman as she was going through labor in the morning of August 16. Urmila died due to excessive bleeding as her family resorted to a shaman instead of taking her to a health post or health workers as she was going through labor in the night. A local Debendra Raj Karki said that her family depended on the shaman while she was going through labor pain which resulted in her death as she suffered excessive bleeding. The locals said that her family tried to make the delivery of child at home instead of taking her to the health post, 3 hours from the village. Three pregnant women have died in past four months due to lack of treatment. Though there are 10 maternity centers in the district, there is no presence of health workers and no awareness activities have been carried out.
