Inmates Compelled to Sleep at Verandah, Under Stairs

Makawanpu,Kaidi bandi haru baranda ra varayang muni sutchan The inmates in Regional Prison Bhimphedi are compelled to sleep at verandah and under stairs for lack of sleeping space as the prison currently has double inmates than its capacity. Male inmates are kept at female wards in the prison. There are 550 inmates in the prison which has the capacity to hold 25o inmates. An inmate Govardhan Rai, 70, complained that he could not sleep properly as the prison was over-crowded. The inmates also face problem of drinking water and toilet due to over-crowding. They collect the rain water and use it for bathing and washing clothes. Thought the prison administration has requested prison department for management of permanent water source, no budget has been provided.
