KHOTANG: District Court Khotang today remanded Gaindra Rai, 27, of Bamrang, Diktel municipality-5 to custody on the charge of involvement in several murder cases. Rai has been accused of murdering four women in Khotang, Udayapur and Sunsari districts in the last two months. Gaindra, who was arrested from Triyuga municipality on July 19, was remanded to custody as per the court’s verdict yesterday. Khotang Police Chief DSP Govinda Kumar Shah said that a team led by had Rai murdered Sabitra Magar, 61, of Pokhariya-8, Udayapur; Bhairmaya Rai of Bamrang, Khotang, on June 12; Jitshobha Rai, 65, of Itahari municipality, Sunsari, on June 24; and Narbada Dhakal, 44, of Bijayakharka-3 on July 3 after robbing them. Other persons involved in the murders also have been identified and they will be nabbed very soon, said Shah. Gaindra had spent 23 months in the prison three years ago on the charge of robbing a gold chain from a woman of Ratanchha, Khotang. It has been reported that Rai formed a group to rob and murder women after his release from jail. “The group used to murder their victims after robbing them,” said DSP Shah.
