Locals of Gotri in Bajura stage demonstration demanding fair voting rights

Locals of Gotri Rural Municipaity, staged a sit-in at district election office, Martadi on April 3 demanding accessible polling center and right to vote freely. The demonstrators displayed placards and banners against the government and chanted slogans. A single polling center has been established for wards 5 and 6 in the past where according to locals there has been voting irregularity including booth capture denying the citizens from their right to vote freely. Local Mangal Bista has alleged that booth capture is always done on the basis of political access at that cenre. He said that dozens of people including Dil Bahadur Bista of Nepali Congress and Kuttak Bista of CPN-UML were injured in the 2074 election.

Locals allege that irregularity has been practiced in this polling station since 2048 B.S. District Election Officer Nawaraj Awasthi claims that if parties agree on the terms of choosing the polling centre, the demands of the locals could be fulfilled. Ward No. 5 is the home ward of Kali Bahadur Shahi, chairman of Jagannath Rural Municipality and Chairman of CPN-UML district committee Bajura. According to the Election Commission of Nepal, there are 82,113 voters in Bajura.
