Police arrested Purna Ghalan, a 45-year-old man of Hetauda sub-metropolitan-9 June 7, on the charge of gang-raping a 27-year-old woman by keeping her hostage for two months in Rapti municipality of Chitwan. Ghalan along with three other men gang-raped the victim by keeping her hostage on March 24.

According to the complaint, the victim traveled from Kathmandu to Chitwan to her sister-in-law's home on March 24. When she got off the bus, the accused approached her to go to his room in Rapti municipality-10, promising to drop her off at her sister-in-law's home the day after. But when she reached the residence of Ghalan, she was gang-raped by three other people and Ghalan on that night. The victim was taken to the hospital with the help of the locals after the victim's health declined. The sister-in-law alleged that the accused dropped off the victim to her house on June 3 after the medical treatment.
