Thirty three year old Sarita Sahani from Katahari rural municipality-4, Nayabazar of Morang district saved herself from domestic violence by fleeing to ward chairperson's house on the night of July 1.
The initial investigation after the incident showed that she had experienced domestic violence since years at the hands of her own husband Manish, brother-in-law Anish and Father-in-law Jaya Narayan Sahani. In the very incident that day, the victim claimed that her mother-in-law held her by hands while others attacked her with punches and kicks.
When police first came in her contact, the victim had injuries and blue marks across the body with hands swollen and uneasiness to move them. Police had arrested her husband and brother-in-law. She ran away from her house at 11 pm on July 2 and appealed to ward chairperson to save her life. The ward chairperson mentioned that her husband who was under the influence of alcohol followed her to the chairperson's house and assaulted her there as well.
The paternal family of the victim is from Biratnagar metropolitan-8. She was married with Manish Sahani 14 years back. They have two daughters aged 12 and 9 years and a son aged 5 years. Their first child is disabled. The victim reported that, she is experiencing violence ever since the disabled baby was born.
DSP Deepak Shrestha of DPO Morang stated that police had started investigation in to the incident by arresting the victim's husband. He also stated that police would provide justice to the victim who appear to have suffered for a long time.
