In-laws torture, evict pregnant woman

Rautahat,Sasu sasura dwara yatna garbhvati mahila ghar nikala. RAUTAHAT, SEP 15 - A pregnant woman of Fatuwa Maheshpur-2 in Rautahat district was tortured and evicted from her home by her in-laws. The victim, who sustained minor injuries in the incident, is receiving treatment at the Gaur Hospital in the district. Shabila Khatun, 22, and Rahana Khatun, 20—wives of one Seikh Abdul were beaten brutally and evicted from home on Sunday night by their husband’s mother, sister, brother and sister-in-law. Following the incident, the victims have registered complaint at the District Police Office on Monday seeking justice. In their complaint, the victims have said that mother-in-law Najara Khatun, sister-in-laws Nehara Khatun and Sehrul Khatun and brother-in-law Seikh Samir tortured them and threw then out of the house in a premeditated manner. They further said that though their husband tried to settle the matter, he did not succeed. With the help of women rights activists, pregnant Rahana reached police office, seeking justice and rehabilitation. Women right activist Kiran Thakur informed that Rahana’s health condition had worsened following the incident. “We are making efforts from our side so that both of them can live in the village,” she added. Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhim Dhakal said that investigation into the case was underway and that police personnel had been dispatched to take into custody the family members involved in eviction.
