Govt ends blizzard rescue operation

Pokhra,Sarkaar dwra sireto bachav abhiyaan samapt. POKHARA, OCT 21 - The government on Monday wrapped up search and rescue operations in blizzard-hit Manang and Mustang districts. Rescuers recovered the body of an Israeli tourist below Thorong La pass in Mustang on Monday. Thirty-nine people, including 13 foreign trekkers, were killed in the deadliest snowstorm in the country. The local authorities said that rescue was halted as the search and rescue was almost completed in the major incident sites and received no information of any fresh problems in the area. “We are keeping the team ready for emergency, but the rescue has been stopped,” said Chief District Officer of Mustang Baburam Bhandari. Meanwhile, one more foreign trekker, who had been missing in the upper Dolpa region, was rescued from Chharka in the district on Monday. Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Khanal said the American tourist, who was trapped after the heavy snowfall and fell ill due to biting cold and altitude sickness, was rescued safely. With that, all the stranded foreign trekkers have come to contact now.
