Banke police stunned by increase in rape cases

Nepalgunj, Banke ma balatkar ghatana baddo. The rise in the number of rape cases has stunned the police in the district. According to Inspector Arun Kumar Singh, two people have been arrested on rape charges in a single day in Bardia district. Police have arrested Balkrishna Sharma Upadhyaya, 70 of Bangai, Ghagwar VDC for raping a 12 year-old girl. Upadhyaya had raped the minor after luring her into his house, Inspector Singh said. Likewise, a 39 year-old man of Sanoshri-3, Kusumbaghat was arrested for sexually molesting his own 15-year-old daughter. Singh said that they had arrested the father of the victim on the basis of the daughter’s complaint on Sunday. In her statement to the police, the teenager said that her father had sexually abused her on a number of occasions in the past and had raped her on Sunday at a hotel after sending her mother to the farm. In yet another incident of rape in the district, Ganga Bahadur Rawat, 35 of Kabhra, Majkot-9 has been arrested for the rape of his 25 year-old neighbour. According to the victim, Rawat had entered her room at night when her husband was away and forced himself on her. Police have already filed a charge sheet against Rawat for rape, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Dinesh Raj Mainali. Meanwhile, a single bench of judge Bishnu Prasad Upadhyaya of District Court, Pyuthan has sentenced Raju Pariyar of Markawang-1 to three years in prison. Pariyar had been charged for the rape of an elderly woman aged 70 on July 9. On the basis of a complaint registered by the woman’s relatives, police had arrested Pariyar from his own house the very next day.
