Couple Arrested for Trafficking Woman

Makwanpur, mahila bechbikhanka aropit giraftaar Makawanpur/November 26 Police have arrested Sabitri Ghimire of Hetauda Municipality011 and her husband Raju on November 25 on charge of trafficking a 28-year-old woman of Makwanpur Gadi VDC-8 to Calcutta, India five years ago. The victim had returned her paternal home in Nawalpur, Hetauda on November 21 in a physically disabled condition. An NGO based in Siligudi, India brought her back to her paternal home. Her sister-in-law Sabitri had sold her in a brothel in Calcutta five years ago luring her with promise to arrange meeting with her husband who worked there. The brothel owner had severely beaten the victim and left her near a dumping site in Siligudi bazaar. She sustained injury to her tongue in the incident. The NGO had rescued her and brought her to Hetauda after providing her medical treatment. According to Maya Lama, chief of Maiti Nepal Hetauda, the victim cannot speak properly due to the beating. Lama added that the victim has wounds all over body and cannot walk. DSP Dipak Thapa said that Sabitri and her husband has been arrested based on the victim's complaint.
