Govt staffers caught taking bribes

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested Chief Survey Officer Ram Naresh Sah and Surveyor Ram Narayan Yadav at Survey Office Kalanki red-handed while they were taking bribes on Sunday. A special squad of the anti-graft body arrested Sah while receiving Rs 15,000 as bribe from a service seeker. During the interrogation, Sah stated that he asked bribe from a service seeker as ordered by Chief Survey Officer Yadav. The CIAA then arrested both Sah and Yadav. CIAA said that it has taken both in its custody for further investigation. In a separate case, the CIAA arrested red-handed an assistant officer of Manamateria VDC in Rupandehi District when he was taking Rs 5,000 as bribe from a service seeker on Sunday. According to the CIAA statement, assistant officer Shiva Prasad Upadhyay was arrested by the official of the CIAA branch office Butwal. The CIAA branch is carrying out further investigation, the press statement said. Meanwhile, the CIAA has registered a case at the Special Court against chairperson of school management committee, Upendra Kumar Yadav and principal, Mukesh Kumar Yadav for embezzling funds by creating a bogus school in Mahottari. The duo had created a bogus school named Rastriya Janata Primary School in Mahottari. According to the statement, the commission charged the two accused in accordance with the Sec 17 of Prevention of Corruption Act 2002. The CIAA has sought a fine of Rs 358,179 from the duo.
