District Chairman of Youth Association Nepal (YAN), the youth wing of CPN-UML, Basanta Gurung has allegedly hurled verbal abuse at Executive Officer at Gorkha municipality, Chandra Thapa Magar. Gurung, who went to submit a memorandum at the Municipality office in the district headquarters on Tuesday, threatened officer Thapa Magar to “throw her out of Gorkha.”

YAN Chairman Gurung misbehaved and threatened Thapa Magar along with other officials during a meeting of the Environmental Friendly Local Governance Working Committee. The municipality source informed that Gurung barged into the assembly hall without permission. The meeting had to be postponed after the abrupt entry of YAN cadres. Gurung apparently vented his ire at today’s meeting as Officer Thapa Magar on Monday refused to allow him to look at the attendance register of the municipality office, said an official at the municipality.

At the committee meeting, the YAN chairman accused the officials of delaying the work of service seekers and misusing government vehicles. “If you don’t mend your working style, we will padlock the office and send you away from Gorkha by smearing black soot and putting on a garland of shoes,” Gurung said repeatedly, “Do you realize that you are challenging me? Now I will show you who I am.” The YAN chairman further said that the memorandum was a chance for the municipality officials to correct themselves.

Meanwhile, some of the YAN cadres expressed displeasure over their Chairman’s behavior. Saying the memorandum submitted by Gurung contained only accusations and was unclear, municipality Executive Officer Thapa Magar said, “Basanta Ji used abusive language and threatened for no reason.”
