Police today made public three persons who were involved in taking Dr. Narayan Bahadur Thapa of Bharatpur Hospital captive, at District Police Office, Chitwan. Dr.Thapa is a Pediatrician at the hospital. The arrested were identified as Ghanashyam Poudel of Bharatpur Municipality, Chitwan; Sakham Khawas of Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot; and June Limbu of Dharan Municipality, Sunsari. Police arrested Khawas and Limbu from a room of Hotel Island Jungle Resort while they were asking for Rs 3 million from the doctor on Sunday. Poudel was arrested the next day. It was reported that Rita Puri of Chainpur filed a case against the doctor in the District Court for verification of relationship with him, which is subjugate in the court. SP Sahakul Bahadur Thapa said Dr. Thapa was captive as the hostage-takers might have assured him that the case would be withdrawn from the court. SP Thapa said it might have been a conspiracy on the part of Rita Puri to extort five million rupees from the doctor for an out-of-court settlement of the case. Rita, who was accused of killing her son, was in the prison since November 7, 2013. Police said the trio had met Rita in the prison and conspired to kidnap the doctor. Dr. Thapa, who was also serving at Narayani Community Hospital, had already paid Rs 1.37 million expecting the case to be settled outside the court. The trio was made public today before presenting them at the District Court. They were remanded to judicial custody for ten days.
