The family of a 4-year-old raped victim accused the police of weakening the case by registering it as an attempt to rape. Speaking at a press conference in Nepalgunj on April 1, the girl’s mother said that the police action had denied justice to the girl. The girl’s mother had filed a complaint against Kalsu Damai, 78, on February 22 at Kohalpur Area Police Office accusing him of raping the girl on February 21 alluring her with sweets. The medical checkup of the girl was conducted at Bheri Zonal Hospital while the accused was arrested on the same day. The victim’s family said that the accused organized a feast in the village after he was released on a general date on March 18. Hearing of the case has been scheduled for April 6. The mother has urged all the concerned to make police file the case under the charge of rape. She added that even when the girl gave a detailed account of the incident, the police had lessened the degree of the crime thus inflicting injustice to the girl and her family.
