Clash between bandh organizers, police leaves five injured

A clash between cadres of the 30-party alliance and police has occurred at Ganatantra Chok of Phidim Bazar on April 7 during the general strike called on by the CPN-M led alliances of 30 political parties. Five people, including one media person, were injured in the clash. Among those injured were Krishna Ojha, former INSEC district representative and representative of Puleso Online, Constable Om Parajuli of Armed Police Force and three agitators' of Federal Socialist Party. The injured are getting treatment at the District Hospital of Panchthar. The agitators vandalized one motorbike with registration number BA9 PA 666. The police had arrested seven protestors, including Brijhang Angdambe and Deepak Khanal. Similarly, Bhagi Raj Rai and Gagan Lawati of Limbuwan party and Bishnu Rai of Federal Socialist Party, Bhim Nembang and Surya Nembang of CPN-M were arrested by the police.

The Federation of Nepali Journalist (FNJ), Panchthar has released a press statement expressing serious attention on the incident. The statement condemned the assault and baton charge on the media person Ojha. The statement signed by the president Laba Dev Dhungana of FNJ further urged the security personnel and concerned stakeholders to create a favourable environment for the journalist in order to collect news. Meanwhile, CPN-M led alliances of 30 political parties released a press statement condemning the 'suppression of peaceful agitation' by the security forces. The statement signed by Surendra Prasad Jubegu on behalf of the alliance further demanded the immediate release of their cadres. DSP Deepak Pokhrel of DPO said that the cadres were taken in control after the situation was tense.
