Woman complains of social boycott in Rupandehi

29-year-old Indu Khadka of Yogikuti of Butwal Municipality-13 has complained that she was socially boycotted by local women on the charges of having an affair. She along with her neighbour Narayan Khatri was accused by local Mothers’ Group of having an affair. Khadka complained that she could not continue her work as beauty trainer because of the boycott making the chance of her children’s education affected and forcing her to change her place of residence. Denying the charge of an affair, she said that her family make her stay one night in police custody. She said that she had loaned Narayan Rs 800,000 but she was not allowed to meet Narayan. When asked, DSP Dilip Ghimire of Area Police Office said that though there was no legal complaint, she was held in the custody to investigate the charge of her affair. He added that Narayan was sent to a rehabilitation centre in Ranibari, Kathmandu to reform his behaviour. Khadka said she was slammed as a witch and insulted by the women on April 10 after the police detained her accused paramour in custody on April 9. She and her husband Devraj divorced on April 30. She said that Narayan’s family suspected her after she gave Narayan the offerings made to goddess Swasthani in February.
