Disabled people picket all district administration offices

2015-08-03

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu, Ward 10

The differently able people have picketed the District Administration Offices across the country demanding ensuring the political rights of the disabled in the new constitution on Monday. The disabled people organized a sit-in in front of the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar from 9:00 am to 11:00 am while they also picketed district administration offices of 74 districts at the same time. Chairman of the National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal, Sudarshan Subedi, said that they would also picket the district administration offices across the country on Tuesday, saying they would launch phase-wise agitation until their demands are addressed. He said, "We want political rights in the new constitution as it was the compulsion to establish rights of three million disabled people." The word 'disabled’ is missing in Article 47 of the new constitution.” Subedi also stressed the need for correction to the draft constitution as the phrase "Disability" is missing for inclusive representation in the lower and the upper house of parliament, the federal assembly, and the village assembly. He said, "We will be compelled to launch stern agitation if our demands are not addressed."
