Morcha cadres vandalize passenger bus, police fire tear gas shells

Cadres of Madhesi Morcha have hurled stones at the passenger bus and trucks carrying loads at Bhardaha VDC-1 while they were being escorted by police in the night of October 23. Saptari police said that policemen Chatis Kiran Kattel, Raj Kumar Rajbangshi, Kiran Rai, APF head constable Mahamad Tharu and Dhan Bahadur Khattri were injured in the incident. Injured policemen underwent treatment at Dharmeshwor Hospital in Theliya and APF Dantakali Battalion in Barmajhiya. According to police, passengers were also injured when glasses of seven buses were smashed by Morcha cadres. Locals said that one dozen protestors were injured when police lathi charged them. APF policemen fired nine rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the protestors while Nepal Police fired five rounds of rubber bullets, said DSP Narayan Prasad Chimariya. Protestors hiding among the crowd that had gathered for a cultural program organized at Kankalini temple premises had hurled stones at the vehicles. The cultural program was dispersed after the incident. Inspector Laldwoj Subedi said that 375 vehicles were sent from east to west while 327 vehicles travelled to east from west in police escorting in the night of October 23.
