Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

Two junior police officers were arrested for allegedly trying to extort a businessman in Kathmandu. Sub-inspector Ramhari Rijal, who was deputed to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority with posting in the Metropolitan Police Circle Maharajgunj, and assistant sub-inspector Ramesh Timalsina, currently deputed to the Parliament Secretariat from Nepal Police Headquarters, were sent to custody for investigation. The duo allegedly attempted to extort Rs 100,000 from 50-year-old Rajesh Sharma of Birgunj-28, Parsa, in the capital a couple of days ago. Police uncovered their role in the extortion plot after the arrest of 35-year-old Kulman Shrestha of Gyamrung-1, Dhading and 40-year-old Mukesh Sharma of India, currently residing in Jaisidewal. They were held by the Metropolitan Police Circle, Janasewa, from Khusibu on Friday. Four persons and the two cops posing as investigators from the anti-graft body approached Rajesh’s solar panel store and demanded Rs 100,000. They also threatened action against him for ‘forging bills of the goods he procured’. They threatened to abduct the victim’s wife if he refused to pay the demanded amount. As Rajesh called them to Khushibu to hand over the demanded amount, police arrested Kulman and Rajesh red-handed, while the police personnel managed to escape.
