Police have arrested Prashant Chaudhary, constable at District Police Office Nuwakot, on January 23 on charge of raping a 17-year-old girl. According to the victim's family, Chaudhary, 23, was involved in the gang rape of the girl at a jungle in Chandrapur VDC-6 on January 14. They accused him of raping the girl showing his police identity card. DSP Manoj Kumar Yadav of the Area Police Office Chandranigahapur said that Chaudhary who had come home in leave for Maghi festival raped the girl with one of his friend. DSP Yadav said that the other accused is absconding and his identity has not been revealed. "Chaudhary was arrested from Nuwakot as he had already joined office after holidays. His judicial remand has been extended by District Court Rautahat's order on January 24," said DSP Yadav. Police had not make the incident public though the victim had filed a complaint at the DPO Chandranihapur on January 14. Medical checkup of the girl was conducted at Chandranihapur Hospital on the same day.
