Madhes, Dhanusha, Sabaila

Two people were injured after police opened fire at a wedding ceremony at Sabaila-8 of the district on Saturday night. The law enforcement agency resorted to fire to maintain order following disputes between two groups of the wedding attendants. The injured are Kamalesh Mandal and Bimal Mandal. They were rushed to Janakpur Zonal Hospital and have been taken to the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences for further treatment. Kamalesh has received bullet injuries in his waist and Bimal below his knee. Both are out of danger, according to doctors attending them. A dinner party was organized by Deep Narayan Yadav a day before marriage of his daughter at 10 pm on Saturday. A police constable from a nearby police office opened fire after a brawl erupted between the two groups, said a local Roshan Yadav. District Police Chief SP Ram Dutta Joshi told Republica Online that police opened fire in self-defense after the weeding attendants tried to attack the constable attempting to stop the fight. “Some of the intoxicated youth tried to attack the cops, so fire was opened in self-defense,” said SP Joshi. Meanwhile, a police team under the command of DSP Nakul Pokharel has been formed to probe the incident.
