An elderly woman was assaulted in Dang on the charges of being a so-called witch. 65-year-old Divya Chaudhari, resident of Chilhariya in Dhanauri-1 sustained serious injuries after being attacked by 32-year-old Hari Chaudhari of the same place. According to DSP Krishna Prasai of Area Police Office Tulsipur, the elderly woman's relatives lodged a complaint against the assaulter at police on Sunday. In the complaint, the victim reported that Hari Chaudhari punched her on her private parts, and indiscriminately attacked her while she and her husband were grazing animals. The attack stopped only after Divya's husband and others intervened. Dr. Tulsi Kuwar of Rapti Zonal hospital at Tulsipur, who was involved in the treatment of the elderly woman informed that she had suffered deep injuries on her face and eye due to Hari's attack. Her chin bone was fractured. The hospital has referred Divya for further treatment in Bhairahawa or Kathmandu. Meanwhile, police are looking for the accused who went absconded after the incident.
