Police have arrested eight persons from Khairang VDC on a murder charge. According to the Area Police Office in Ghodetar, 27-year-old Birendra Rai of Khairang-7 was beaten to death following a drunken brawl on Thursday night. Birendra, who was critically injured in the incident, died while being taken to Dharan for treatment. A police team from Ghodetar detained Sajan Rai, Prakash Rai, Maniraj Rai, Ramesh Rai, Hemanta Rai, Rajiv Rai and Pratap Rai of Homtang VDC-4 and Tara Bahadur Rai of Khairang-4 on Saturday night. Police investigation showed the suspects and victims were friends. The victim was bludgeoned with a wooden plank over a minor dispute. One Raj Kumar Rai, 18, was also injured in the incident. They were returning from a wedding party.
