District Administration call on locals to hand over weapons within a week

(updated) District Administration of Kathmandu have issued a notice for the locals to hand over any licensed or unlicensed arms, ammunition and explosives they own. According to the notice, the locals are required to hand over the weapons to the District Security Committee within a week. The notice was issued in view of the upcoming local level elections to maintain law and order in the society, informed SP Dipak Thapa of the DPO. Anyone found to be in possession of such weapons after the notice expires, they would be punished as per the law, police added.

EC seeks details of licensed weapons in all districts With the date for the local elections approaching, the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide details of the licensed weapons temporarily handed over to the District Adminstration Offices (DAOs) by private individuals. The commission has asked the ministry to provide the details of licensed weapons at the earliest. It has also asked the local adminstration to give details of illegal weapons confiscated in recent days. All 75 DAOs have collected both licensed and illegal weapons from locals in view of the upcoming elections. "The commission has also instructed the DAOs to keep all the licensed weapons under their control until the election is completed," states a press statement issued by the EC.
