Intensive Training on HR Kicks Off

A 15-day intensive training course on human rights has kicked off in Dhulikhel on January 2.

 

Chairperson of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) Subodh Raj Pyakurel inaugurated the program amid a function today.

 

Addressing the function, INSEC Chairperson Pyakurel pointed out major human rights problems in the country as being impunity, discrimination and poor situation of rule of law. He was of the view that the nation will be gradually isolated from international community if the government grants blanket amnesty to those involved in serious crimes. Reminding the participants about Article 29 of the Universal Declarations of Human Rights, INSEC chairperson said, "We should know our responsibilities and make the service delivery agencies responsible and accountable as well."

 

Saying that it is an era of human rights, INSEC Chairperson said that the government is unable to serve its citizens and political parties are not guided to work for the service of people.

 

Stating that human rights should not be dealt on isolation, INSEC Chairperson said, "We should consider on the ways for making a society with justice guaranteed." He stressed the need for observation, documentation and reporting of the monitoring of the human rights.

 

INSEC Executive Director Bijay Raj Gautam shed light on the objectives of the training and welcomed the participants. The inaugural program chaired by INSEC mid-regional coordinator Krishna Gautam was conducted by Geeta Gautam.

 

A total of 25 participants from 23 districts including Dhading, Kavre, Makwanpur, Ilam, Myagdi, Nawalparasi, Kailali, Jhapa, Rolpa, Doti, Morang and Baglung are attending the training.

 

INSEC chairperson Subodh Raj Pyakurel, Executive Director Bijay Raj Gautam, Board Member Kundan Aryal, human rights activists Kapil Shrestha, Gopal Krishna Siwakoti, Shiva Lal Bhusal, Govinda Bandi and Surya Deuja among others will facilitate on different sessions related to human rights, democracy, UN human rights mechanisms, regional mechanisms of human rights, International Human Rights Law, Human Rights Council and Role of NGOs, National Human Rights Institutions, Crime and Human Rights Violation, Human Rights Defenders and their roles among others.

 

Documentaries related to human rights and democracy will also be screened during the training.<
