Driver Injured in Police Beating Waiting for Treatment

Rukum/August 6 Tractor driver, Min Kumar Khadka, 31,of Chhiwang VDC-2 has been waiting for proper treatment after being injured in police beating. Khadka was injured on August 2 when the policemen at temporary police post at Solabag in Khalanga VDC-6 assaulted him with a stone for not registering his tractor (Ra 1 Ta 674) at the station, the locals informed. “I told them that I will come for entry after parking my tractor but the policemen came running and smashed the windshield. Then they held me, beat me and then again at the station”, Khadka informed. The health workers say he needs facial X-ray as he has serious face injury but the facility is not available in the district. District Hospital Salle, where he was admitted to on August 3, has referred him to Nepalgunj but is being treated at Rukumeli Community Hospital as he could not afford travel to Nepalgunj. The victim’s family said that an agreement held on August 4 between the police and a delegation led by Rukum Chamber of Commerce and Industries chairperson Basant Pun said that the treatment cost would be covered by the police and that action would be taken against guilty policemen, but it was yet to be implemented. DSP Rajendra Prasad Gurung claimed that the process of departmental action had been initiated against two policemen involved in the incident but he refused to divulge the names.
