Complaint was lodged against 55-year-old Maiya Karki, a resident of Khandadevi-5, at District Police Office on January 25 in accusation of discriminating against 15-year-old Ashmita Rasaili based on caste. Karki supposedly mistreated Rasaili for touching the public tap.

In the written complaint, it is disclosed that Karki beat Rasaili and shouted obscenities at her on January 8 while going to fetch water.  According to the victim's mother, she had fever for two days because of the beating.
