Rasmee Uparkoti filed a complaint at Metropolitan Police Complex, Kathmandu stating that she was beaten by broom and burnt with a hot spatula on February 27 accusing her of being a witch.
On the basis of the information given by the Uparkoti, police arrested Kavita Shrestha, who claims to be a witch doctor.
According to SP Basanta Lama, Kavita is still claiming that the victim is a witch and the police is investigation on the assault.
Rashmi claims she has serious injuries in her uterus and head due to the beating. According to the Witchcraft Accusation and Punishment Act-2072, there is a legal provision for a person convicted of witchcraft allegation to be imprisoned for six months to five years and a fine of five thousand to twenty thousand.
The law prohibits the use of word witchcraft and accusing, abusing and torturing anyone in the name of witchcraft.
