Police rescued nine children on August 21 from Namuna Progressive Women's Society situated in Nagarjun Municipality-4. The organization was not registered and the children were kept there without fulfilling any legal procedures.
Police rescued five girls and four boys from the facility. The children's ages ranged from 3 to 11 years.
According to Inspector Mohan Bikram Dahal, police arrested the operators Kopila Kunwar, Pratap Rana, Ratna Pariyar, Sujit Rayamajhi and Radhika Pandey on the charge of keeping the children without fulfilling legal provisions.
The operators had brought the children of the conflict victims to Kathmandu in the pretext of educating them. Police were informed that the children were held hostage, were not fed on time or sent to school and they were also sexually abused.
