Police have tortured 28-year-old jailee Asmita Tamang of Melamchi municipality-4 in Melamchi area police. She was arrested on the charge of murder on the 26th of August. On the same day, a policeman had beaten her up with a pipe and boots at around 9 PM, the victim shared with a representative from INSEC. She has sustained an injury on the left thigh because of the assault.
She voiced a complaint of torture during the remand extension process in the district court. The victim underwent a medical checkup at Chautara hospital. Madhav Prasad Kafle, the DSP of the Sindhupalchowk district police office, said that he was unaware of the torture but assured of departmental action if someone was found guilty.
