Demonstration Held Demanding Implementation Of Land Reform Report

The landless people of the district have held a demonstration on January 29 demanding the authority to publish the report of the High-Level Scientific Land Reform Commission.

 

They also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai through the District Administration Office, Bardiya.

 

The memorandum signed by District Land Rights Forum, Baridya chairperson Kesh Bahadur BK asked for constitutional guarantee that there would be no compensation for the land kept beyond the ceiling, withdrawal of the decision made by Conflict Resolution Sub-Committee of formulating only the law and not mentioning it in the constitution, action to be taken against anyone stopping the tillers from using the land, halt in demolishing the squatters' homes without providing any alternative and tenants to get half of the land automatically after working on it for six months among others.

 

The squatters also held sit-in for two hours before handing over the memorandum.
