Police interfered to avoid the ugly scenario in group confrontation among the locals and people assembled for cremation in the cremation site of Chabahil, Kathmandu. The dispute emerged after the cremators prepared cremation of 60-year-old Laxmi Dangol as per the Newari tradition in their cremation site. The locals near the cremation site protested citing foul smell. 

The new locals have protested against cremation in the area, while the people of the indigenous Newari community want to continue their traditional cremation in the area.  Rapid urbanization around the cremation site is the major reason for the conflict.
