Policeman injured after assault by drunk workers

As many as five persons have been reportedly arrested for creating disturbance and assaulting on-duty police personnel at Ananta mela in Badimalika Municipality-8 of Bajura district on Saturday

The arrestees have been identified as Amrit Bohara and Keshab Giri, both working at the National Commercial Bank, Harishankar Joshi, who works at district attorney office, Gorakh Thapa, the technician at Municipality of Badimalika and Anami Dhani Thapa, who works at an NGO called Marie stope centre.

According to Inspector of Police Janak Dhungana at Bajura District Police Office, the assaulters have been taken under police custody for creating a chaos in the mela and attacking on duty police officer.

Drunkmen got into a fight with many policemen leaving Maan Bahadur Chand, assistant sub inspector, with severe facial injuries while attempting to control the assaulters, said inspector Dhungana.

Chand’s treatment is not possible at Bajura District Hospital and will undergo surgery in another hospital due to severity as the bone on the right side of his cheek has been severely damaged, asserted Dr Tikaram Rai.

The ban on the sale of alcohol was imposed for three days to maintain calm during Ananta mela. Mela authorities sat for a meeting with the stakeholders of Badimalika Municipality District for the same, seller liable to pay fine upto Rs 5000 and Rs 2500 for drinking in public spaces, respectively.

All arrestees remain in the custody while the investigation continues.
