The family members of Ek Raj Sharma, 23, of Karahiya VDC-8 have picketed Area Police Office Butwal on December 5 saying demanding action against his alleged killers. Sharma was admitted to a rehab called Devdaha Fellowship Foundation in Singh of Kerwani VDC-8 for treatment of his drug addiction. The family claims that Sharma died due to the beatings carried out by the rehab’s in-charge Sandip Shrestha and filed a complaint against him on December 4. The rehab claims that Sharma fainted during a class and was taken to the hospital whence the staff had called Sharma’s family. Sharma’s father Thaneshwar Paudel said that he had filed an FIR against five rehab staffs including Shrestha, Bishal Chhetri and Amrit Aryal. He has also asked the representatives of human rights organizations including INSEC, NHRC and AWC to help him in his fight for justice. The family, which was adamant at not taking the body until the legal action and compensation were assured, later relented following an agreement with the police.
