Dil Kumar Rai, 36, of Mauwabote VDC-6 has been beaten to death by the locals on January 15 while he attempted to rape 24-year-old distant relative.. The police confirmed his death saying that the locals beat him after he attempted to rape the daughter-in-law in relation. At least nine people involved in the incident were arrested by the police. The arrestees were Parshuram Rai, 17, of MauwaBote VDC-6, Prakash Rai, 16, Santosh Rai, 15, Membara Rai, 14, Barsha Rai, 19, Pramila Rai, 24, Phul Kumari Rai, 58, Binod Rai, 19, and Tilak Rai, 25, Inspector Durga Rai of District Police Office, Khotang said. They were taken to the District Police Office, Diktel for the further investigation. The deceased Rai attempted to rape the victim on the night of January 14 at her own house. The victim’s husband is in foreign country for employment. The locals informed the police about the incident on January 15. The group of police from Huknajor Police Post in Phaktang VDC and Area Police Office, Chisapani was deployed at the incident site after the information. The body of the deceased was taken to Gaighat of Udaypur for the postmortem. D
