KJWP Cadre Released After Paying Fine

Devan Singh Rai, 26, of Nerpa VDC-5, who was arrested on charge of extorting money from district-based teachers, businessmen, locals and government staffs and also on charge of being involved in weapon robbery at a local police station, has been released on January 24. District Administration Office asked him to pay Rs 60,000 as fine. Rai was accused of looting the police station at Nunthala on May 4, 2010. He was arrested at Sangam Park in Diktel Bazar VDC-2 on November 20, 2013. He was charged under Arms and Ammunition Act 1964 and CDO Deepak Raj Nepal released him after asking him to pay fine. The KJWP, which is conducted underground activities demanding ethnic state in eastern hilly districts, has already had five rounds of talks with the government but none of the points of agreements including that handing over of the group's weapons to the government, release of the KJWP cadres have been fulfilled. There are nearly 30 KJWP cadres in District Prison in Diktel. The group had launched strike on police stations on Phaktang, Devisthan and Chisapani.
