There is a practice of the prisoners to welcome the new inmates with beatings. They beat the new entrants when they first enter prison. The method has been going on for a long time and has become a sort of tradition. 

The prison leader first beats the new prisoner, and on his command, the older prisoners beat them one after the other. They claim they do it to teach them discipline. On Monday, eight prisoners, including the prison leader of Surkhet District Prison, assaulted six new prisoners. 

Prakash Budha's family has stated that his leg was broken in the incident. However, the prison administration has denied the accusation.
