Siraha/February 28 A FIR has been filed against the people accused of physically assaulting the dalits in Chadroudaypur VDC-7 on charge of touching public well. The FIR was registered by Mirchaiya Area Police Office on February 28 after the victims demanded for action under Caste-based Discrimination and Untouchability (Offence and Punishment Act) 2012. It is said in the FIR that the dalits were thrashed at their homes following a scuffle between Shyam Devi Sada and non-dalits Inju Devi Lama and Purni Lama at the public well on February 24. Bijay Lama, Sharada Lama, Ashok Thapa, Shiwa Lama, Bhushan Lama, Inju Devi Lama, Purni Lama and Shanti Lama have been accused in the incidents. APO Mirchaiya’s Inspector Naresh Raj Subedi said that the police have initiated investigation into the case. Meanwhile, INSEC Eastern Regional Office, Biratnagar monitored the village of tension on February 28. A team of HRDs led by INSEC Regional coordinator Somraj Thapa went to the village to learn about the incident. During the interaction with the community, the dalits said that 36 dalit families were forced to wait for the well, which actually belong them. The well that used by the non-dalits dried up some time back forcing them to come to the one used by the dalits. D
