Mother, Daughter Displaced Following Witch Allegation

Sarlahi/March 19 Laxmi Devi Dhami, 45, and Manju Dhami, 20, of Chitain in Haripur VDC-6 have been displaced from their village after the villagers assaulted them accusing them of being witches. They left for district headquarters Malangawa on March 18 after they were assaulted on March 17 night following the death of Mantoriya Devi Dhami, 27, the wife of Uday Narayan Dhami. Uday Narayan is a brother-in-law of Laxmi Devi. Shaman had attended Mantoriya Devi at her maternal home when she became ill. The assaulters went inside Laxmi Devi's home with the dead body of Mantoriya and then assaulted her and her daughter. Laxmi's husband, Gokul Prasad Dhami said that the reason behind the allegation and the assault was that he had a property dispute with his youngest brother, Uday. Gokul was away from home to work in a brick kiln and came home after finding out about the assault. The women have not filed any complaint at the Police Station. Police said that action would be initiated against the assaulters.
