Demand to Incorporate Legal Provision in Constitution against Rape

Lalitpur, bbalatkaar virudhko kanunni pravdhaanma nai hunuparnema jod. Lawmakers and women rights activists have stressed on constitution drafting to ensure the rights of victims of rape. Speaking at a program organized by the National Women's Commission on March 30, they emphasized on keeping provision in constitution to ensure the rights of such victims. Chairperson of NWC Shesh Chand Tara said that the weakness in legal provision against rape had not been amended though they had conducted two nation-wide campaigns. She added that the NWC would conduct a third-phase campaign from April/May 2014. She further said that the campaign is aimed at creating a basis to ensure the legal and social justice of rape victims and women who were subjected to sexual violence during the armed conflict. NC Constituent Assembly member Bal Bahadur KC, UCPN-M CA member Nisha Kumari Sah expressed commitment to draft law against rape.
