Passengers Bear the Brunt of Transport Entrepreneurs' Dispute

2012-02-16

Gorkha / February 16

People have been affected as most of vehicles of public transport did not operate due to a dispute between two transport entrepreneurs committees in the district on February 16.

Hundreds of passengers, who had to go to different locations, could not travel after Prithvi Highway Bus Entrepreneurs Committee (PHBEC) did not operate its vehicles blaming Gorkha Transport Entrepreneurs' Committee (GTEC) for imposing a syndicate system to the vehicles plying in gravel roads. PHBEC also blamed local administration for helping GTEC to impose the syndicate system.

Vehicles plying to long and short routes from and to Gorkha did not operate, affecting hundreds of people. "We are forced to stop operation of our vehicles due to recklessness on the part of GTEC," PHBEC treasurer Yogendra KC said.

He informed that an indefinite closure of public vehicles will be imposed from February 17. GTEC is operating its vehicles in gravel roads in various parts of the district.
