Yamakala Bishwakarma (Acharya), a resident of Mai Municipality, Ward-2, registered a case of caste discrimination and untouchability at the District Police Office, Ilam on Monday for not being allowed to see her father's face and even collectively perform death rituals after the death of her father. Yamakala, who got married to Ratna Bahadur Bishwakarma 11 years ago, performed her father's rituals according to Hindu theology. After finishing death rites on Monday, YamKala filed a case against her brother Tikaram Acharya, neighbour Laxmi Dangal and Parbata Acharya Bajagain of Buddha Shanti Rural Municipality-3 of Jhapa. Yamakala recalled that after marriage, she had to endure discrimination and humiliation from her relatives time and time again. According to Superintendent of Police Navin Raj Rai, the action would be taken as per the Caste Discrimination and Untouchability (Crime and Punishment) Act after investigating the incident. Human Rights Forum Nepal, NGO Federation District Branch Ilam, Nepal Federation of Indigenous Tribes District Coordinating Council Ilam and Oppressed Ethnic Rights Forum Ilam have requested for action demanding action against discrimination based on the caste.
