Dang,two policemen get 7-year imprisonment for rape. Dang/ April 22 The Appellate Court in Tulsipur has slapped 7-year imprisonment and penalty of Rs 1 lakh to two policemen, convicting them of rape. Those convicted are the then head constable Dharma Bahadur Malla and constable Bala Ram Chinara deputed at Area Police Office, Tulsipur. A joint bench of Judge Megh Nath Bhattarai and Krishna Lal Bhattarai of Appellate Court issued the verdict. One of the accused female has been given a clean chit by the court, according to the registrar Rameshwor Regmi. The victim had lodged a complaint at APO Tulsipur on December 31, 2010 accusing both the policemen of raping her on December 27 in a jungle while she was being brought to APO Panchkule for discussion regarding a dispute between the neighbors. The policemen had reached Jaubari in Purandhara VDC-8 following the dispute over boundary of land. Earlier, the District Court had acquitted both the accused on July 14, 2012 after which the victim sought review of the court decision at appellate court. The appellate court overturned the decision of the district court three years later. Human rights organizations including INSEC, human rights network, women human rights network and other organizations had made public a report after conducting a fact finding into the incident where they confirmed that the victim was raped.
