Biratnagar/May 6 A clash between police and landless people at Pathari in Morang on May 6 has left at least 35 injured including four police personnel. Journalists Santosh Rai said that the clashed took place as police resorted to lathi charge to resume vehicular movement in the transportation bandh called by landless squatters in Morang on May 6. The landless squatters have been demanding land ownership certificates of areas they have been living off for years. The protesters torched four and vandalised some vehicles in a bid to block the East-West Highway, police said. Leader of landless squatters Tanka Bhandari, Parshuram Chonbang were among the injured. Police constables Dinesh Kumar Yadab, Anka Bahadur BK, Dipendra Mahato, Bishunu Karki, Suresh Yadab were also injured in the incident. ASI Gaurav Subba of the Area Police Office Pathari said that Dipendra Mahato was undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar. A truck (Na4Kha 5402) was torched in Mayalu chok in Pathari while another truck (Me1Kha 1156) was also torched by the agitating squatters. Passenger bus (Me1Kha 924, Ga1Kha 4109) parked in Jatemod of Pathari VDC-1 was also torched. The agitating landless squatters pelted stones at the police and drove them away from Jatemod whereas police fired tear gas shells at the protestors. Police arrested 16 agitators who were leading the protest.
