District Police Office, Nuwakot, has arrested Jagdish Khanal, District Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalist on Sunday on a charge of attacking Shiva Devkota, a journalist from Nuwakot. Editor and publisher of Uttargaya daily and Nuwakot Jagaran weekly Shiva Devkota was brutally attacked in Nuwakot, on September 21.
Talking to Freedom Forum’s media monitoring desk, Devkota said, “Some members of the Federation of Nepali Journalists in district chapter attacked me during membership distribution program.
The group of 10 FNJ members kicked and thrashed me for standing against “undue decision’’ of membership distribution to the non-journalists at the program.”He sustained injury on his chest and has been receiving treatment at Grande Hospital, Kathmandu. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at District Police Office, Nuwakot, according to Devkota. “We are informed about the incident. However, no complaint has been filed on the case yet”, said Tul Bahadur Karki, District Police Chief.
