Bijay Mahara, 19, of Jingadiya in Garuda Municipality-8 had died in the custody of Garuda Area Police Office. His father Panilal Mahara, has lodged a complaint at the District Public Prosecutor’s Office, Gaur on September 9, against six people including the SP.

The complaint has been registered against the then SP Rabiraj Khadka of District Police Office Rautahat, Inspector Nabin Singh of District Police Office Gaur, Constables Firoz Miya Dhuniya, Munna Kumar Singh, then DSP Gyan Kumar Mahato of Area Police Office Garuda and SI Birendra Yadav.

Inspector Nabin Singh, Constables Firoz Miya Dhuniya and Munna Kumar Singh have been suspended, while SP Khadka has been shifted to Kathmandu Police Headquarters and DSP Gyan Kumar Mahato and SI Birendra Yadav have been shifted to Provincial Police Office, Janakpurdham.

Mahara’s father Panilal has lodged a complaint about justice saying that Mahara died at 1 am on August 27 due to torture in the custody of the Area Police Office, Garuda.

District Attorney at the District Public Prosecutor’s Office, Subash Kumar Bhattarai, said that the complaint was registered against the SP and sent to the District Police Office, Rautahat for execution.

The victim’s side has alleged that Niranjan Ram, 20, of Jingadia in Garuda Municipality-8 was strangled to death by the police on August 15.

A case has been registered at the District Public Prosecutor’s Office on September 9 after continuous agitation demanding an investigation into the incident and action against the culprit
