Jhapa/June 11 Lasang Lama, 26, of Mechinagar Municipality-10 has been tortured in custody of Area Police Office Kakarbhitta at Mechinagar Municipality-10. APO Kakarbhitta had arrested Lama in the morning of June 10 and tortured him at the police office. Police team including Inspector Bijay Shrestha kicked him and punched him and beat him with lathi leaving him with severe bruises all over his body. Lama said that police arrested him in the morning at 8 from the Kantipur Guest House in Kakarbhitta for no reason and beat him as soon as he was brought to the APO. They extended his remand at the District Administration Office after registering a public offense case against him in the afternoon, according to Lama. The victim has serious injuries in different parts of body, both shoulders and face. A team of rights activists and media persons met with Inspector Shrestha and gathered information about the incident. Inspector Shrestha said that Lama sustained injuries when police retaliated as he attacked them.
