Khotang/June 15 Upendra Basnet, 26, of Kangel VDC-8, Solukhumbu and posted at Jabarjung Battalion Mude, Diktel has been sent to one year in prison on June 15 after being convicted of attempt of raping a 16-year-old girl. Battalion commander Ram Bahadur Thapa informed that Basnet has been fired on the same day as the Summary Court Martial made the decision. Thapa also added that Basnet has been rendered ineligible for government employment in the future and stripped of financial amenities. Basnet had tried to rape the girl in Thamkhore Jungle in Diktel VDC-6 in the evening of April 4. The family of the victim filed a complaint at District Police Office, Khotang on April 5. DSP Govinda Kumar Shah had arrested Basnet on April 4 and handed him over to Mude Barrack on the same day.
