Police have used force on members of civil society protesting against dissolution of House of Representatives in Baluwatar.
Police personnel used water cannons and baton charged at the crowd in a bid to disperse them.
The citizens’ protest launched to protest Oli’s recent move that is being called unconstitutional had organised a match from Kamalpokhari to Baluwatar, today.
According to the police, they took action as the crowd had tried to break into the prohibited zone – around the PM’s residence.
Following the police intervention, senior journalist and writer Narayan Wagle said that a third people’s movement has begun.
There have been many protests across the capital since PM Oli unilaterally acted to dissolve the House. The splinter group of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, opposition Nepali Congress, civil society and other parties in opposition have launched series of demonstrations against the PM’s move.
Earlier today, rights activists demonstrating against dissolution were arrested in Baluwatar.
